From Russia With Love...

My honeyed orbs under moonlight met,
You, my exotic (erotic!) tiger pet,
At the frail mercy of wicked time,
                                  We drank expiring summer wine,

                                  Voluptuous vampire...you left me!
                                  Your lust bitten, sex kitten.
Tragic, you weren't equally as smitten.

                                  Yes! Hopeless, naturally amorous I!
Rest your apple blossom cheek next to mine,
Dampen my lips with lover's breath,
                                  Remember with fondness Ohrid's nymphet.

                                                Just one last time,
                                                Let's spill summer wine,
                                                Just one last time,
                                               Whisper to me this rhyme.

Because every fool loves (in) the summertime.

Bathing Beauties Of Summers Past...

If there is one thing that I love collecting from the 1940's and 1950's, it has to be vintage swimwear. What better way to track societal and cultural changes than through the exposure (or lack thereof) of skin? The whole process of changing ideals truly fascinates me.

A stunning Rita Hayworth sporting a typical late 1940's bathing suit style

Ah-mazing 1940's bathing suits!

Adele Mara - florals, ruffles, and cream peeptoe platforms? Yes, please!
Esther Williams - Hollywood's mermaid - in star worthy and glamorous gold lame!
The pincurls, the glossy red manicure, and those heels! 100% unadulterated glamour!
Chic sunglasses and a knit suit...what could be better for a vacation?
Miss America contestants in the 1940's wearing Catalina swimsuits
I don't know who this lovely lady is, but I am drooling over her polka dot print twist two piece!
It's sarong time! Sarong bathing suits and sarong dresses, my number one choice for accentuating those curves!
The corset swimsuit of the 1950's - if it was good enough for Marilyn, it is good enough for me!
1940's swimwear at its finest - I love how each look is completely individual

"What A Strange Illusion It Is To Suppose That Beauty Is Goodness" - Leo Tolstoy

Food for thought...
Rita Hayworth - how often "beauty" carries a tragedy along with it
Marilyn Monroe (apres Hollywood makeover) and Joe Dimaggio

A young Marilyn Monroe - before her famous Hollywood makeover!

Girdles, girdles, and more girdles

Picture perfect?

Beauty pageant contestants, after judging. What kind of douchebag ever decided that he/she was the supreme authority on beauty anyhow? What a ludicrous idea...in my opinion.

To all the creeps...
Envy
Greed
The camera - it can be both your best friend and your worst enemy...
Fetish
Perversion...
Vice...
Vanity...

Vintage Style Inspiration: Anita Ekberg!

Oh, California, what happened to Springtime? I woke up this morning at 7:00 a.m. to sunlight streaming through the open window, and now at 11:45 it is already 82 degrees. After living in Eastern Europe for a few years, I had forgotten just how much warm weather we get here, even in Northern California. Don't get me wrong, I love warm weather, but I also came to love the sight of snow blanketed streets, the muffled crunch of snow under my boots, and all of the beautiful fur trimmed coats, cozy wool knits, and scholarly tweeds that came along with Winter. Back to California. Yesterday it was unseasonably warm for this time of year, so I took a look into my closet and found a forlorn silk summer dress hanging there just begging to be worn...I had never been able to get the zipper up, it requires some major cinching, but I managed yesterday and when I looked in the mirror I saw a dress reminiscent of something a young Elizabeth Taylor would have worn...soft cream silk background, stark white daisies and bright, fresh squeezed orange colored poppies! What could scream "summer" more? I forgot to take pictures, but I promise next time! In the meantime, here are a few photographs of the beautiful Anita Ekberg, who is always inspiration for maintaining that touch of glamour, even in midst of a heatwave!
