The Best of Comrade Von Pussycat - 2013 Edition!

Alright, to be fair, a lot of these photos did not show up on the blog, but are from my Instagram account! I hope you don't mind :)

The Best of 2013!
A few of my favorite things: My pussycat Wiggins, Limecrime Red Velvet Velvetine, Spanish summer florals and pompoms, NARS Belle de Jour, MAC Lady Danger!
A dose of glamour: MAC Ruby Woo, my film noir inspired jewelry box, 1930's astrakhan coat with "Elizabeth" emblazoned in bright pink, a very silent movie star inspired portrait, Wiggie and Red Velvet, a dazzling sangria colored 1940's dressing gown.
Summertime: Wiggie and Chekhov, a summer updo inspired by Russia, California sunset, California roses from the backyard, hotpants that would make my Grandma proud, charm necklace.
Russian Doll: Wearing MAC Ruby Woo (again!),  Infamous opening paragraph (Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov - I always read in in the summer for some reason), my giant Russian doll and a Bible in Cyrillic, popsicle toast, MAC Lady Danger, Mae West quotes are the best!

Weekend Review - LimeCrime's Velvetines in Suedeberry and Red Velvet!

After searching high and low for a long lasting liquid lipstick that would truly last a full work day with minimal touch-ups, I have finally found the "one". I had heard a lot of good things about Limecrime's Velvetine lipsticks, which go on liquid and dry to a matte finish, and after wasting money on other brands with mediocre effects, I finally took the plunge and purchased both "Red Velvet" and "Suedeberry". Here is the break down:

Red Velvet:
"She had lips like a red, red rose"

Suedeberry:
"Strawberry red, often associated with the 1950s icon Marilyn Monroe"

After reading reviews for both colors, I decided to try both, although Suedeberry seemed to be a bit of a gamble because some claimed it was pure orange, and others reported that it was a strange coral color. Well, I found that it is very similar to MAC Lady Danger. It is almost a neon red orange color, perfect for the warmer months especially!  I love both colors equally, however, I like to layer Suedeberry over Red Velvet for a more Marylin Monroe full lip effect. Especially since matte lips can sometimes lack dimension. The staying power of the Velvetines is amazing, compared to conventional cream lipstick as well as other long-lasting lipsticks, such as Maybelline 24-hour. Unlike other brands, the Velvetines do not flake or crumble, which is of the utmost importance when you are wearing a dark or bright lipstick. The less you have to worry about your lipstick, the better! It is pretty smudgeproof...after drinking two coffees and eating a croissant in the morning, it still looked as good as new. I do have to touch up if I eat something greasy, because this lipstick is waterproof, but when it comes in contact with anything oil based, it will dissolve...and quickly! It wears off evenly, and it isn't as drying as most matte lipsticks. It feels fairly weightless, and as long as you don't constantly rub your lips together or lick your lips, it should stay for at least 5-6 hours. Oh, and as far as the kissing test goes...it passed with flying colors, and we're not just talking a peck on the cheek ;)

There you have it, my thoughts on Limecrime's Velvetine range. I would love it if they came out with a dual color Velvetine so I didn't have to buy both colors separately, but I love them both enough to deal with it!

A little dose daily glamour goes a long way...

Hello dear readers!
Forgive my absence, I have been busy moving into our new apartment, unpacking, trying to make sense of all the mess, cooking, working, and doing all sorts of other mundane daily chores! Sometimes I really do feel that I lack a daily dose of glamour, and as frivolous as it may sound to some, I sincerely believe that in order to take care of others, one must first take care of oneself. With all of life spinning around me (and my birthday quickly approaching...8 days, yikes!), I decided to indulge in a few goodies to keep my day to day routine slightly more glamourous and keep me from feeling like a slob, especially when I am just staying at home! The first thing I bought is this gorgeous merlot satin dressing gown from the 1940's...which will hopefully make it nearly impossible to look like a frumpy housewife!
Please forgive the photo, I still haven't received it in the mail!

The next item I decided that I needed, was a proper fitting brassiere. In the past few months I have gained a few pounds, as I decided I would rather have more flesh than less, and therefore, nothing fits! Pretty lingerie has always been one of my greatest obsessions (my first job was at Victoria's Secret!), and so I bit the bullet (haha I love a good pun!), and ordered the Secrets in Lace Bullet Bra in Red:
Hopefully this will work, and I won't poke anyone's eye out, cross your fingers...

Finally, since I somehow lost my MAC Ruby Woo *sad face* I decided to take the plunge and order the lipstick that I have been hearing rave reviews about for at least 6 months...drum roll please...Lime Crime's Velvetines in Red Velvet! I decided that for work, I definitely needed something that could wear evenly throughout the day, and since the Maybelline 24 hour lipstick I tried a few months ago flaked off horribly, I decided to invest in a better quality liquid lipstick. I really hope it is true to its reputation!

That is all for now, I promise to post reviews when I finally receive the goodies in the mail! Have a wonderful weekend, and keep it vintage!
