Favorites: Raggedy Tiff by Jessica Resendiz!

I can't even explain to you how much I adore these pieces by Jessica of Raggedy Tiff! I definitely do not promote fast fashion/big brand/irresponsible consumerism (which is part of the reason I buy vintage), but I truly believe that if you are going to invest in a new creation, you should definitely support local and small businesses. Jessica truly is an artist - from the Schiaparelliesque ruby velvet El Corazon applique sweater to the whimsical Chola/Frida earrings - I am sure you will fall in love with her designs just as much as I have after you see her work!

"El Corazon" ruby velvet pillow - $60
"El Corazon" sweatshirt - $75
"La Frida" necklace - $30
"Luna" mother of pearl earrings - $45

Fire-Roasted Tomato & Chipotle Pepper Soup

Get creative with the garnishes!
Roasted garlic and red peppers for the soup - roasted sweet corn would be a great addition too!
Serve with plenty of warm tortillas!

Fire-Roasted Tomato & Chipotle Pepper Soup

  •   Olive oil
  • onion, chopped
  • Garlic cloves, roasted
  • 3-4 roasted red peppers, peeled and cleaned
  • 2 28 ounce cans  whole fire-roasted tomatoes
  • 1 14 1/2 ounce can  chicken broth
  • 1 chipotle chile in adobo sauce, chopped
  • Additions & garnishes: avocado, sour cream, cilantro, black beans, fried tortilla strips, shredded chicken, side of grilled cheese, pickled jalapenos

  1. In a medium to large size stock pot, saute onion in olive oil until translucent.
  2.  Put all ingredients into a blender (except for the garnishes, naturally!) and puree until smooth.
  3. Pour soup into stock pot and heat to desired temperature. You can also serve this chilled, it is delicious either way.
  4. Ladle into soup bowls and garnish as desired!

A Little Spicy, But Not Too Raw...

Ever since I was a blossoming girlchild, I have been painfully aware of the proportions of my body. I remember I once spent an entire year wearing a sweatshirt around my derriere, attempting to hide from the world. When you are an eleven year old girl, attention from boys is super scary! I was also terribly shy. Now, as I approach thirty, I have accepted my figure -  I absolutely love the entire 1950's "bad girl" look... I just don't know if I have the cajones to wear these babies outside the house...

Vintage Style: Vacation Mode!

How adorable are all of these outfits? Perfect for a vacation to Mexico...I especially love the strapless number with the matador pants and voluminous tomato red sash!
I love that in the 1950's they made coordinating resort wear! So practical!
Cat eye sunglasses? Check. I love the lady in lemon and cream colored seperates!
Sun and sand...what more could you want?

Lana Turner in "Love Has Many Faces" set in Acapulco, Mexico. I adore her style in this movie!
Oh, Lana...you're so perfect. I need, I mean NEED, more animal print in my wardrobe!
Meanwhile, somewhere in Mexico...
Dream looks!
Let's go campy!

A Lotta Whorechata...

Don't you love the rope belt?
My new favorite dress, courtesy of Chula Vintage on Etsy!
I finally found comfy and pretty sandals for long treks to work in the summer heat!
So Carmen Miranda!
Reminds me of an orange creamsicle...1950's lace skirt that I just added to my ever expanding vintage collection :) *Happy dance*
I can't wait to wear this in the summer!
Because a cup of sweet Turkish coffee is good for the soul...
After a few hours braving the heat of the stove, this is the result! Homemade red pepper spread or lutenica!
New additions to our terrace garden - jalapenos and cherry tomatoes!
