Behind the Veil
The concept of modesty is something that
escapes Westernized culture, but can you imagine, just for a second, the
possibility of modesty? Overexposure perpetuates desperation; modesty
exudes mystery. How perfectly intelligent
to drape yourself in swaths of elegant fabric and cover everything but
the eyes! The eyes reveal everything that the mouth refuses to, they
convey passion, pleasure, madness, anger, sadness. Eyes reveal a
thousand pleasures. Ignited by smoldering kohl, framed in seductive jet
black... the eyes are liberated from distraction to whisper intoxicating
ghazals... in modern days, the
language of the eyes is quickly being forgotten. Thankfully, ancient
texts have been carefully preserved so that we do not forget for long...
How
often have I wandered down the street in modest modern western apparel, yet still felt naked? Many times I have wished that I lived in a
society where it is traditional to be covered in bright cottons and
silks emroidered with gold threads. It takes skill and the art of
manipulation to drape fabric so it just grazes the most flattering parts
of a woman's body, and highlights only the most ethereal features.
There is comfort in feeling covered; and for those who feel assaulted
with amorous advances, it is a welcome feeling. This is why a woman would choose to be covered, and for her I harbor great respect.

Well said. When I cover my head with a scarf during these cold winter days, I sometimes wonder what it would be like to be "covered" all the time.
