1940's Swimwear...Oh, SO glamorous!

Last Summer, alone in my studio apartment with Ebay and no A/C, I got lost browsing vintage swimwear...and a few days later won the beautiful little floral number in the post below for a mere $16.
I haven't been back to California to try it out, but I am dreaming of taking it for a swim this summer! It has a back zip, built in bullet bra, and is just so glamorous. I am so envious of the ladies who lived in the 1940's and 1950's just for the fact that the swimwear was so glamorous...I hate the feeling of letting it all hang out. It just seems so...indecent and vulgar. Vulgarity is fine in small doses, but there seems to be an abundance of it these days. But, that is another post for another time!

Another thing I just thought of is that modern swimwear just doesn't promote loving your body (unless you are the ideal "supermodel skinny" or "Playmate" shape), and makes you feel incredibly uncomfortable if you have any jiggle whatsoever below the chest region. What a stark contrast from the 1940's and 1950's, where "skinny" was undesirable and having a little jiggle was prized. Vintage swimwear makes me feel beautiful and makes me forget my body "flaws". Which are not really flaws at all, really. They are a natural part of a normal, healthy woman's body...and I love my jiggly, shapely thighs, my soft and undefined tummy, and lovehandles. Call me crazy, but I feel beautiful :)

  2. There's just some thing about the style of the 30's, 40's and 50's. I love looking at pictures of the fashion from then.

  3. I LOVE that all of these great 40s swimsuit designs are slowly starting to reappear again! Not only do I find that the modern bikini leaves little to the imagination, and, the wardrobe malfunctions that happen in those are the stuff of nightmares :P
