My name is Catherine aka Comrade Von Pussycat, this blog is a cheeky homage to all of the Bond girls I grew up watching on screen and aspiring to be like. I am a California girl who fell in love, and married a Macedonian boy. We have a cat named Samson who we rescued from the snowy winter streets and who now repays me by humping my leg incessantly...such a creep! Oh, and I also happen to love the 1940's and 1950's, so stay tuned if you love vintage too!

Film Noir Favorites: The Long Haul (1957)
"The Long Haul" is probably one of the most underrated pictures in film noir history. From the undeniable chemistry between Victor Mature and Diana Dors, to the sizzling style choices (I mean, skintight platinum lame gowns and mouton trimmed bomber jackets? Come on!), to the stunning cinematography - this is a must watch for film noir aficionados!

Rhinestones, Velvet & Dirty Martini's
The title of this post conjures up visions of rundown strip clubs and flickering neon signs...I love it. Did I ever tell you that I was offered a job as a stripper in Las Vegas? I have no idea why (I am terribly introverted and not particularly provocative), but the proposition was amusing to say the least... just call me "Dirty Martini" ;)Let's talk about velvet. Velvet, once reserved only for cabaret singers, showgirls and socialites, has become the pariah, the ugly little sister of the textile world. In recent years it has been relegated to the deep, dark recesses of closets - and if it ever sees the light of day, it is usually in the form of leisure suits or blazers. Nothing wrong with that. However, velvet is one of my favorite textiles - the way it glows in the dark blue night, feels like pure luxury when you slip it on (and off...), and adds a touch of glamour to anything. I rarely, if ever, see velvet take the form of something glamorous in modern stores. This is another reason to wear vintage - there are so many beautiful velvet dresses that you can find that feature stunning construction and details such as rhinestone embellished belts and plunging necklines.Velvet is also a lot more forgiving than charmeuse and silk, especially if you wear the proper foundation garments. Nothing makes jewels shine more brightly than a backdrop of plush velvet - ever wonder why they use velvet to line jewelry boxes? Now you know :)

On Glamorous Undergarments & Seduction
I am a great proponent for a dose of daily glamour, although I realize that my own style may be uncomfortable for others. One thing I absolutely cannot understand, however, is the appeal of Spanx and similar shape wear, which in my opinion, is completely unglamorous and inexcusable. I realize that "girdle" has become an ugly and taboo term, and that the idea of having steel boning in your shape wear is frightening to a lot of women. However, vintage shape wear is (in my opinion) infinitely more glamorous than its modern counterpart. Pretty colors, frothy fabrics, glamorous lace, and sensual silhouettes. Nothing kills the mood for seduction more quickly than a pair of plain beige biking shorts. For your own sake, even if no one even sees your shape wear, at least slip into something that makes you feel pretty and you aren't embarrassed to show off...should the occasion arise. You never know when and where a seduction will take place, why not be prepared and open to the possibility? The last thing I want is to be foiled by my unsightly undergarments. One thing I deeply believe in is that you should, on a daily basis, seduce yourself...a piece of dark chocolate, a sophisticated cocktail, a steamy bubble bath. This may sound narcissistic, but I assure you, when you feel good about yourself you can face anything.

Champagne Cocktails & Chambord Dreams
Whew...I had an amazing time ringing in the New Year, but all of those Champagne cocktails, Chambord Kir Royale's, and glasses of red wine definitely went to my head! I woke up with a slight headache, so I turned to my go-to hangover remedy - mimosas with freshly squeezed orange juice! The best way to cure a hangover is to keep the drinks coming, am I right? ;)
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015!
What better way to begin the New Year than with a few pictures of some of my favorite things?
